Ruti Olajugbagbe is a Nigerian teenager who resides in the United Kingdom and She was crowned the champion of The Voice UK on Saturday April 7, 2018.


Ruti is a student and a part time carer. She lives with her parents and her younger brother, Femi. She  attends the Youth Creation Performing Arts School in Stanford. She had taken to her Youtube channel to do cover to various songs including ‘Latch’ and ‘Use somebody’. She stated that she simply enjoys mixing song together.

Olajugbagbe admitted that she’s been influenced by bands such as Bastille and Artci monkeys as wells Emeli Sande. She was chosen by Tom Jones who is one of the judges of The Voice UK, to be part of his team after her rendition of George Ezra’s Budapest.

She battled past Saskia Eng with her cover of Dreams which  earned her a spot in the semi-finals. Her performance of the classic, Waiting For A Star To Fall sealed her spot in the final.

It was a nail-biting final which saw the last four contestants battle it out for the £100,000 (N44.5b)prize, as well as a deal with Republic Records. Ruti was crowned champion after three incredible performances, with her cover of the Dreams by The Cranberries, to be released as her debut single.

Speaking after her victory, Olajugbagbe said: “I wasn’t expecting this… I didn’t expect to get to the blind audition, I don’t know what to say!”
