“Grab these opportunities,” Tope phrased.
“I have not been getting any. So how do I grab them? Wave my hand in the air and catch them?” Jessica asked rhetorically with an air of disgust.
She hated that Tope was talking to her like she would to a toddler. She was not lazy but she knew that the opportunities were not just coming her way to help her advance her newly started side hustle.
But where in the world do these people who get pretty lucky get their dose of opportunities? Seychelles? Pluto? Venus? The list might go on and on but the fact is that opportunities most times don’t really exist, they are created.
There are people in this life who always seem to be in the right place at the right time. They’re the ones who appear to always land the dream job and live the dream life, fulfilling their life’s purpose, in ways you can only imagine. Their life seems to be marked by a profound sense of groundedness, self-realization, and joy.
Fortunately, those people aren’t just subject to luck and chance. Opportunities are present all around you as well; you just need to learn how to identify and step into them. There is nothing in the Universe that says you can’t fulfil your own dreams and create a life you want to live. On the contrary, the Universe actually invites you to step into who you were created to be, offering your unique skills to others in ways only you can.
More than just thinking positive, you have to put it into action. Action, actually, is the key to developing self-confidence. It’s one thing to learn to think positive, but when you start acting on it, you change yourself, one action at a time. You are what you do, and so if you change what you do, you change what you are.
Dress well, increase your competence through skills and abilities, be prepared, and smile often.
Ensure not to leave events disappointed and dismissing networking as a complete waste of time. Rather, walk out with a handful of business cards feeling happy, inspired and excited. Each connect could lead to job leads, referrals, exposure, connections, opportunities to grow in business.
Use social media effectively
You’re a brand. I’m a brand. We’re all brands, whether we aim to be or not. Personal branding, then, is the process of managing and optimizing the way that you are presented to others. And social media is one of the keys (if not the biggest key) to managing your personal brand online.
Use social media responsibly and effectively.
Do away with self-defeating behaviours
Self Defeating Behaviours (SDB) are things that we do when we are feeling, for example, low, fed up, sad, nervous, anxious or have another kind of undesirable feeling that we find hard to handle. Keep away from procrastination, fear, negative self-thought and self-guilt.
Avoid self-defeating behaviours.
Prepare for success
Success is a mindset, and no one has the perfect definition of success but you. Say yes to everything that will skyrocket you to your envisioned peak and shun the rest.
Opportunities abound but you must create them and place yourself in position to earn them.
