Make Yourself A Priority

Make Yourself A Priority

If you’re struggling with anything at the moment, you deserve to make self-care a priority.

Whether that means lying in bed all day, eating comfort food, putting off homework, crying, sleeping, rescheduling plans, finding an escape through a good book, watching your favorite TV show, or doing nothing at all – give yourself permission to put your healing first.

Life happens and there will be things you will not be able to control; a business folding up, a relationship going sour, a pressing need not met, a desired goal not achieved. The list goes on and on. The fact that things went bad does not mean that you are a failure. Can I also add that the fact that your peers seem to be ten steps ahead doesn’t make you less of a person than they are.

Quiet the voice telling you to do more and be more. Resist the pressure to run a race that is not yours; resist the urge to keep up with the charade on social media just because. Today, whatever you do, let it be enough.

Feel your feelings, breathe, and be gentle with yourself.

Acknowledge that you’re doing the best you can to cope and survive. Your efforts will count for something.

Look at your journey. Appreciate how far you have come; give yourself a pat on the back even. Don’t give room for self-pity or thoughts that could sink you into depression. Keep yourself esteem in check and intact.

And trust that during this time of struggle, the phase will pass because you are enough.
