HOW TO ACHIEVE YOUR SET GOALS BEFORE MID-YEAR
At the start of the year, I am guessing a number of us penned to paper goals we would love to achieve. It could have been long or short-term goals but the question now is not what are the goals but if any have been achieved yet. We are gradually coming to the end of the third month of the year leaving us with 9 more months before the year comes to a close.
This is more than enough time to achieve so much and even make a landmark that would make this year a great one. After all, 9 months is enough for a fertilised egg to form into a full-grown baby. Even if you haven’t accomplished much in these first three months, imagine what you stand to achieve in 9 months time if you start now.
How then can we go about achieving our set goals while fighting off the spirit of procrastination?
- Be certain. Do not leave your goals to an ambiguous timeline. Instead, set a specific time frame you wish to accomplish them. You could say “by July 1st, I would have made an offer on that house and move in by the 15th of July” rather than by “before the end of the year, I should have moved into a new house”.
- Be practical. For whatever goals you have set, there must be achievable steps to accomplish them. Don’t put yourself in a position where pressure begins to cave you in. Start small and grow from there.
- Goal periods. Not all goals can fall under short-term just as not all can fall under the long-term. Categorise these goals so you know which you can accomplish in the shortest time possible. Short term goals can fall under what you can achieve within the next week or next month or even the next year. Long term goals should be what you intend to achieve in the next 5, 10, 15 years. These smaller ones could even serve as a means to achieve bigger goals.
Goals can only be achieved when we work at them. So the question is what is the plan? Brian Tracy said, “A goal without a plan is only a dream.” It doesn’t happen by magic but with a combination of hard and smart work. So, get to work.
