These days, people are too busy to meet themselves anymore. We race through life so much so that we cannot even take out time to pause awhile, look within ourselves and get to meet us. Connecting with your inner self, helps you better understand who you are and what you stand for. You get to figure out your purpose, values, goals and even what motivates you. It makes you more aware of you and gives you more clarity into your true personality.

Often times, we play different roles at different times….. Mother, Wife, Daughter, Sister, Employee, Boss etc. But before you are all of these, you are, first of all, YOU and understanding the real you, makes you better able to fit into the roles life give you. These roles are simply identities that do not define who you are. Instead, you define them by being the actual YOU, made know by connecting with your inner self.

Do not build your life around these roles or identities so that when they are taken from you, you are unable to cope; you are lost and can’t be anything else. Often times, I have heard people say, “All I know is how to be a mother”; “All I know is how to be a husband/wife”. Find your dreams, purpose and goals and you will understand how much more you can be. We all have a duty to ourselves to be real, to be actually happy and to truly live and not just exist.

Many a time, we are saddled with so many tasks to accomplish that we hardly see the time go swiftly. Suddenly 24 hours don’t seem to be enough anymore. There are even times we may not be physically active but mentally, we are so very busy that we don’t seem to notice how great and beautiful life actually is.

We are all too busy and occupied with advanced technology – browsing, texting, online stuff, social networking etc. so much so that we do not even see the need for a face-to-face interaction anymore even though we can help it. We do not see the need to take a break in our journey through life and even see the direction in which we are headed.

We wake up in the morning, rush right into the day; sometimes we even forget to give thanks to God for the gift of the day and commit the day to Him. We don’t actually pray. We are too busy to pray, too busy to communicate with God the giver of life forgetting that the very life we are striving so hard to enjoy, is in the hands of the Creator.

We just utter some words of prayer without our hearts actually in it; we can’t even hear ourselves pray because we are too busy rushing to get started with the day. We are in a bit of a hurry to get our lives on the move that taking out time to actually spend with God is a bit too much to ask. We forget to take care of our souls which is actually “the life” in us.

Craig Groeschel did say, “If the devil can’t make us really bad, then he will try to make us really busy”.

Every now and then, we feel so estranged from our inner selves that we may not even feel the void or the lack of connection with the very substance of our existence – our souls. We are alienated from the best part of ourselves, the part that makes us who we are.

The reason is that often times, we just exist and not live. We go through the day like going through the motions and before we know it, the day is gone and another day is here. The funny thing is sometimes, we may not even see what was accomplished within those 24 hours of the day we rushed into in the first place.

“Life is but a quick succession of busy nothings,” Jane Austen said.

We are often in a hurry. We feel as though there is no time but the truth is there is nothing but time. The question is how do we use it?
