I hear there might be a draught soon. We need solutions on how to get prepared for this, the good news is that I have an idea but we have only thirty minutes to get this done. We will need to fill a basket with water to its brim. Now you are beginning to think what a ridiculous thing that would be. I share the same opinion with you because even if we are given a year, the basket will never get filled. We will grumble, worry, and get frustrated doing that and this is because it is impossible.
It sounds like what a half-witted person would do but the truth is that we are often wearied by thinking and worrying about things that we can never change. In the process, we forget the good things we have and become the most ungrateful version of ourselves.
Even the Bible gives us an insight into this
Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to your life? Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?
Luke 12:25 (NIV)
It is quite easy to find people grumbling and murmuring about how life has been unfair to them and forgetting to count the good times too. Being alive is something to be grateful for because no matter the wealth you might acquire you can never buy life when the grim reaper comes knocking.
You have had small victories and the ‘not-so-small’ victories too, they are all reasons why you should be filled with gratitude. The cliché phrase, “Count your blessings” is an incredibly good advice. Adding up our troubles and stressing about life situations we can’t control has terrible effects on our physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health. It makes our well-being wane and puts us in a state of depression, anxiety and anger.
In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
1 Thessalonians 5:18 (KJV)
If you are at a loss on how to imbibe this attitude of being grateful; you might want to keep a daily gratitude journal, use visual reminders like computer, phone or sticky notes to signal you at random times during the day to count your blessings and changing the tone of the things you say to yourself.
I don’t know what you perceive yourself to be but I know you are a WINNER. The very first evidence lies in the fact that you were the only survivor(s) among a million sperms that raced into your mother’s womb. This and more events that have occurred in the course of your life should be reasons to count your blessings which will, in turn, help you create a culture of personal contentment, happiness, taking major challenges in stride because you remember what you ’re truly thankful for, strengthen your faith, remember your beginnings, appreciate your achievements and measure how far you can go.
