DID YOU KNOW THAT GREEN TEA IS A GREAT RINSE FOR YOUR HAIR?
In this era of natural hair-do, girls take every opportunity to rock and flaunt their natural hair in different styles – weaves, buns, rolls and the likes. However, Tega wasn’t one of such as her hair was giving her serious cause for concern so much so she was thinking of visiting the barber to go chop the hair off. The hair was shedding so much that it was embarrassing.
On one of those days when she went to the saloon to take off her braids, her stylist who had been with her on her hair journey informed her she was going to try a new product on her hair after washing. Tega had already decided to chop the hair off so, at this point, nothing the stylist said mattered. She agreed.
Fast forward to two weeks… Tega was back at the saloon grinning from ear to ear, her hair had magically improved and she had come to find out from the stylist what magical product she used on her hair. To her amazement, the magical secret for her healthy, full and bouncing hair was Green Tea.
Green tea, yes the same one you drink, has more benefits than you know. With its high vitamin and antioxidant content, Green tea promotes blood flow to your hair follicles and this results in increased circulation. How does this tea benefit the hair?
- It reduces shedding
- It promotes hair growth due to its caffeine content
- It treats scalp conditions such as irritation, hair loss etc.
- It serves as a conditioner for your hair and adds shine to it too.
All you need to make this rinse is:
- 2-4 Organic Green Tea Bag
- 1 Cup Water
- Coffee Mug
- Heat water
- Bring the water to just under boiling temperature.
- Pour the hot water over the tea bag and let brew for 30-45 minutes or until cool.
- Pour the brewed green tea into an applicator bottle for easier application.
HOW TO DO A GREEN TEA HAIR RINSE
Because it has few toxins and it’s more potent nature, organic teas are often the best when it comes to rinse. With Green tea, it may be advisable to start with one bag to see how your hair and scalp like it. The reason for the caution is because its caffeine content can also cause it to dehydrate the shaft of your hair.
So instead of going straight to 2,3 or 4 bags, begin with one. If your hair likes it, you can gradually increase it.
Always do this rinse after you shampoo your hair and before you condition because a clean scalp would better absorb the antioxidants in the tea and enjoy the moisturizing conditioner which would prevent drying your hair before you finally rinse with water.
However, it is also advisable to ALWAYS do deep condition after a green tea rinse to help counter any dryness the tea may cause on your hair.
Here are the instructions for the green tea hair rinse recipe:
- Wash your hair using a moisturizing shampoo.
- Part your hair into four sections to organize it and to make it easier to access your scalp.
- Apply the tea rinse to your scalp and hair using the applicator bottle. It is not necessary to apply the tea rinse to your hair.
- Allow the tea rinse to sit for 15 minutes while you massage it invertedly into your scalp to allow for more blood flow.
- Apply conditioner to your hair and detangle.
- Rinse your hair with water.
- Deep condition your hair for at least one hour.
- Rinse and style as usual.
Do not use this rinse for a long time to avoid your hair from drying out. So it is advisable you use it every 1-2 weeks but limit to a 6-8 weeks period when you observe your hair sheds too much.
