2018 French Open – Day Three

SERENA WILLIAMS PULLS OUT OF FRENCH OPEN

Serena Williams has pulled out of the French Open Games due to a chest muscle injury. The news broke shortly before she was scheduled to play against two-time French Open champion Maria Sharapova in the fourth round. The 23-time grand slam winner who recently returned to the court after taking a 16-month break to concentrate on her daughter and family shared her disappointment saying:

It’s extremely disappointing. But also, I made a promise to myself and to my coach and to my team that if I’m not at least 60 percent or 50 percent, then I probably shouldn’t play.

Serena who began noticing the injury when her chest began hurting in her third-round singles victory over 11th-placed Julia Goerges on Saturday, stated that due to the injury associated with her right pectoral muscle which was revealed during an ultrasound, she is unable to serve and has been advised to get an MRI because the extent of it is still unknown.

The fact that I physically can’t serve at all is a good indication that maybe I should just go back to the drawing board and stay positive and try to get better and not get it to a point where it could be a lot worse.

We wish Serena a quick recovery and hope to see her back on the court very soon.
