ILLUMINATE! WHOSE CANDLE ARE YOU?
One of the few objects that has always enchanted me were candles. Come to think of it, they are just candles but they have always and still hold me spell-bound. When I was younger I enjoyed the feeling of passing my tiny fingers through their flames and feel a mesh of the wax on my skin. I would often sit by it, watching it flicker, burn and wander in my thoughts. Imagination has never been a strange thing for me. It has always been there even before I knew what the word itself meant.
With time I began to realise the beauty of a room litted by a candle. On a second thought I decided on a certain day to lit some other remnant candles that had been used the previous night – The room suddenly became more illuminated than it had ever been. It left me with a lifelong lesson. This further opened my mind to the fact that we can learn from a whole lot of things.
To “light a candle for someone” indicates one’s intention to say a prayer for another person, and the candle symbolizes that prayer. Candles are lit for prayer intentions.
Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid. 15. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. 16. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
-Matthew 5:14-16 (KJV)
Lighting more than one candle will keep a room more illuminated than it ever was and putting off another person’s own won’t make your’s shine brighter. In this age of increasing awareness of the feminine gender, there is a need for women to be candles to other women. We need to make the hashtag #womensupportingwomen worth it. There is an incredible power in synergy and giving out support to other women.
I find women who help, cheer, share resources and pray for other women as being incredibly strong. This does not take a thing away from you, it is more blessed to give than to receive. Empowering women does not come from selfishness rather it stems out from selflessness.
Who is that one woman you would take a bold step to support in whatever little way you can today?
