HOW ABOUT WE DO A ‘DEFRIENDIFICATION’?

Have you ever woken up in the morning feeling bloated, tired and weak? I know I have and whenever I feel this way, my next point of action is taking a cup of green tea to detoxify. However, it’s not every time the bloating is internal, sometimes it is external; social toxins that weighs one down. When you realise this, you must be quick to go on a detoxification diet to get rid of these social toxins.

Life is filled with highs and lows that directly affect your emotions and psychological well-being allowing social toxins to stay a tad bit longer will do you harm. Protecting your peace and mental health is more important than the emotional social toxins you’re allowing to pile up. Social toxins come in various forms such as a threat to identity, peer pressure, frienemies, the ideology of success and some more.

However, I will be focusing on the frienemies; friends who do not genuinely love us or want our success and progress.

Defriendification is the process of removing frienemies from a persons live in a bid to protect their emotions and psychological well-being

Here’s a rundown of the various types of frienemies you need to hit the defriendification button for:

The selfish and emotionally draining friend:

This particular friend makes everything about her, she has a way of making her problems bigger than yours and guilt trips you at every opportunity she gets. When you speak about your problems she cuts you off and shifts the conversation back to her problems, She’s also somehow in a state of perpetual turmoil, and it’s your job to fix it and make everything better. It’s exhausting.

The flaky friend:

This friend is always agreeing to plans then bailing up at the end of the day or she just disappears for a long time and tries to manipulate her way into your life again. You don’t need someone like this, believe me.

The fat-shaming friend:

There’s nothing wrong with using a little motivation on a weight loss journey but you should never feel self-conscious about yourself with a friend. There’s a subtle difference between how you feel when a friend is trying to motivate you, and how you feel with a frienemy is judging you. You will know, don’t shut down the little voice telling you it’s time to get rid of that friend.

 

The friend who is only friends with you when she is single

You two are the best buddies until she starts dating someone and then she disappears. Several months later, she shows up at your apartment with runny mascara and a huge bag of comfort food.

 

The friend that makes you feel poor:

I’m not saying a disparity between income is a reason to stop hanging out with someone, but if it’s getting to the point where you have to awkwardly remind them a few times that you actually can’t afford to go to an expensive restaurant on a girls night out or they rudely remind you the difference between your income, detox away.

Avoid being dragged on the petty bus by a friend who possesses one or two traits of the above. Push the defriendification button today to protect your peace and mental health, that’s more valuable than maintaining a relationship with a frienemy.
