7 YEAR OLD HAVANA EDWARDS CAPTURES WORLDS ATTENTION BY PARTICIPATING IN WALKOUT PROTEST ALONE

Seven year old Havana Edwards, a student at D.C Area Elementary School has won the title as ‘the bravest little girl of all time’ after being the only one to walk out of her school on Friday to be part of the nationwide school walkout to remember the Columbine mass shooting.

The walkout which was staged to speak against the high rate of gun violence in schools was witnessed across the United States on April 20th.

In an interview with Teen Vogue, Havana shared that she had urged her other classmates to join her and was sad that they didn’t.

I didn’t understand why they didn’t care. I tried to tell them to come, but they said no. She said.

Wearing an orange spacesuit, Havana said it represented her dream to become an astronaut to show her friends and the world that little black girls have dreams, aspirations and are strong, beautiful and deserve the same chance to achieve their goals as everyone else.

Havana who recently started a book club due to her activism in the Black Lives Matter Movement, believes that Black Books Matter  as well; so she donates books containing lots of black girl in them to her school.

Finally, Havana hopes to encourage other students and let them know they are not to small to change the world or make a difference. In her words:

I know that just because I am only seven doesn’t mean that I can’t help other people everyday. My advice to other kids is that you don’t have to be a grownup or be famous to change the world.

Havana you inspire us all!
