WALKING: YOUR PATH TO GOOD HEALTH

Apart from the proverbial ‘an apple a day keeps the doctor away.’ Walking is another activity that keeps the doctor away. Walking just because you missed catching up on a bus is not I mean here. The healthy kind of walking is when you walk with then intent of exercising the muscles. It has tremendous mental and physical benefits with the ability of keeping cardiac-related diseases, stroke, diabetes and stiffness at bay. It improves your mood and lowers your stress levels. All you need for a walk are a bottle of water, comfortable shoes and clothes.

You may not need to walk for so long a distance, walking for even a minimum of 30 minutes per day is enough to have an impact in your health.

There are numerous benefits of walking to your health:

It soothes joint pains

Studies prove that walking reduces arthritis-related pain, and that walking five to six miles a week can even prevent arthritis from forming in the first place. Walking protects the joints especially the knees and hips, which are most susceptible to osteoarthritis — by lubricating them and strengthening the muscles that support them.

Reduces the risk of chronic diseases

With the increase in occurrence of chronic diseases, walking for a period of 30minutes for 5-6 days in a week. You make deliberate effort to reduce your risk of having a chronic disease.

 

Your psyche improves 

Walking has the ability of improving your memory, cognitive capabilities and sparking up creativity. So, walk every day to give your memory power a serious boost. It helps calm your nerves and relaxes your brain.This helps your brain to think strategically and in a more sorted way. When you feel stuck, take a walk.

 

It helps in the process of weight loss.

Being a form of exercise, it has a good impact on weight loss but the longer you walk, the better the results, you are likely to achieve. To lose a pound a week, you generally need to eliminate 500 calories a day.

 

Initially it might be a little discomforting or tiresome and you might need motivation. You can start by walking with a friend who shares same interest, walk your dog, choosing to shop in stores located at a little more far distance or walk for a cause.
