WHY I DON’T DRAW UP NEW YEAR RESOLUTIONS

Happy New Year.

I pray this new year brings every of our heart desires to fruition.

It’s been four days into the new year and I hope we have been getting things done?

So last night on social media, I saw something that amazed me. Two ladies had a tweet-fight and I remembered these ladies made new year resolutions to tolerate people, take people as they are and not bully anyone in the new year.

But sister A saw sister B without makeup at the mall and the next thing she tweeted was “she saw sister B and she is a smellos and she is ugly”. And I asked myself, what happened to “our new year resolutions”?

I have seen so many new year resolutions and I have been wondering about possibly doing wine to join the trend but over time, I have realized I don’t follow my resolutions. I also discovered some of us don’t follow them, in fact, people are more likely to follow a daily routine or plan than they are to follow a new year resolution. Somehow, it’s a system built to fail. Think about it, you’re not just going to wake up tomorrow and stop eating carbohydrates. Our bodies are just not wired that way. It takes approximately, 21 days of consistency for something to become a habit.

Years ago, I would have written some new year resolutions and at the end of the year, I would find that it didn’t necessarily pan out the way I wanted to and not because I was lazy but sometimes, there are just circumstances beyond our control and for some, God’s will and our will just don’t align. Since realising that, I have learnt that what works for me is simple; follow God’s plan for my life daily and doing the work on myself so that I am always ready for the next step.

New year resolutions are nice but I think in this part of the world, it takes determination to really stick to them.

Or maybe it’s because I am not determined that’s why I never stick to my new year resolution or maybe as I journey in the year, I found better things and I just had to let go of my resolutions.

Why stick to a good resolution when you can have a better one later in the year.

Don’t get me wrong, the scripture also says “And then God answered: Write this.

Write what you see.

Write it out in big block letters

so that it can be read on the run”. Habakkuk 2:2.

But the scripture was talking about revelations. Was your new year resolutions God’s revelations to you?

This new year, it is time to take flight, you and me both know that you don’t belong where you are right now. You don’t belong with some of the people you’re around right now. You have got no business doing what you are doing right now.  How long is it gonna take to make the decisions, to take some courage and show some character. Character is the ability to carry out a resolution long after the excitement of the moment has passed. Some of us lack Character.

Are you going to say you’re going to do something, do it for two weeks and then quit?  Like you did last year or the year before the last? You say you want to loose weight, get in shape, get your business off the ground, get closer to God, and then turn around and party, get lit, drink alcohol, eat like a glutton and continue to love below who you are created to be?   I’m not religious but I’m going to take you to church.

The word sin comes from the Greek word SIN used in archery. It means to miss your mark. Our resolutions sometimes makes us plummet into the water. Resolutions sometimes makes us aim too low and dip instead of aiming too high to fly.

Forget a new year’s resolution, let’s make a new life resolution to be fully and authentically YOU.  It Is time to go from mediocre to meteoric, counted out to counted on.

Fly like the eagle that you are or cluck like the chicken.

Once again, Happy New Year!

Let God have his way in your life this year.

Follow His plans for your life.

Are your new year resolutions God’s revelations?
