With 2018 right around the corner, many of us are trying to figure out how to end the year with a bang-da-dang! So we’re planning parties, checking our bank accounts to make sure we’re well equipped for all the shopping and partying we intend to do.

As great as this is, new year plans don’t have to start on the 1st of January. in fact, successful people have shared that they plan way ahead for subsequent years. Careful planning and preparation is what guides success.

In 2018, you definitely want a better year for yourself than the one that’s just passed; no matter how well you did, you want what is coming to be better than what has been.

Here’s a few pointers for people who want to have an amazing 2018.

Have A Mantra For Your Year

I already decided that mine was to move silently with the Holy Spirit. Less announcements, less chit-chat, just doing it already. I found that even though my year was pretty good, it could have been greater if I hadn’t procrastinated and second guessed myself a lot. With every year that comes, find one word or phrase that will set the tone for how you move. What this does is it makes you more conscious about the actions you take or don’t take as the months go by. This word or mantra will serve as a rubric and an accountability meter to determine whether or not you’re actively living out what you said you wanted for that year.

Write it down every day, make it the lock screen on your phone, add it to your affirmations in the morning. Proclaim that over yourself and be willing to put the work in behind it, I promise when the year is up, you’ll be amazed at what you’ve accomplished.

Map Out Your Goals

Chopping your goals down in smaller sizes helps you to accomplish the much longer term goal. To do lists are great as daily planners and weekly goals are great to pattern your to-do lists agains. And by now, you should know how important it is to put your goals in writing.

Determine the overall task you want to see done each quarter, and then map out all the things that it takes to see it done on a weekly basis. By doing this, not only will you set yourself up for success but you’ll be able to look back and see tangible results at the year’s end.

Assess Your Relationships

Establish Boundaries

Boundaries are important in every relationship you find yourself. So you’ve made the cut, you’ve established who you’ll be taking into the new year. Now, even with  those relationships, they need to be regulated. A large part of understanding who you are will determine that you are able to set the tone for how you are treated. People will treat you how you allow them to. It is important that you get a sense of self and ensure that in business, dating/marriage, friendships, you are able to establish those boundaries.

Declutter Your Environment

How can you make room for the blessings of the new year when you’re still holding on to the baggage of the past year? It is important to reflect on all the toxic bits of the year that you would like to get to rid of and make a conscious effort to detox yourself.

Rid yourself of anything and anyone that’s potentially holding you back. That teddy bear you got from your ex that you loved dearly but was hella toxic. Throw it away. Those old baggy clothes that remind you of the weight you used to have when you we’re going through a rough patch? Trash it. Those mental strongholds that are keeping you from forming real long-lasting relationships? Get rid of it sis; out with the old.

Make A List Of Books To Read in 2018

Books not only help your vocabulary but your ability to learn as well. Learning will have to be a key element of your 2018 as it determines your level of growth. Pick out 12 good books that will equip you with the tools you need for success, even if it means reading a fictional book by a great author which will help your writing skills, that’s allowed too. Start by assigning one to each month of 2018 but you might do so well that you’re able to do more than 12 books. It may seem like a lofty feat, but in all honesty, it isn’t. We all make time for what we really want to do, so choose to do this instead. Expand your vocabulary, entertain new thoughts and paradigms, explore a whole new world outside the one you currently live in.

Make this upcoming year your year of congratulations for growth in every aspect of your life, and choose to soar to new heights.

What are some ways that you’re preparing for 2018?
