MICHELLE OBAMA: ” SO MANY PEOPLE ARE QUICK TO TWEET EVERY THOUGHT”

While speaking at the inaugural summit of the Obama Foundation in Chicago on Wednesday, 1 November, 2017 former First Lady Michelle Obama gave the audience some great advice on Emotional Intelligence. She went on to describe how to maturely manage impulses when it comes to speaking. “When you have a voice, you know – you just can’t use it any kind of way,” she said. “This whole ‘tell it like it is’ business, that’s nonsense.”

Obama went on to specifically address social media. So many people are quick to “tweet every thought,” she said, but that’s a bad idea, because “first initial thoughts are not worthy of the light of day.” When the audience responded to her common sense advice with laughter insinuating that she might have been speaking of the current President, Trump who has been known for his tongue-in-cheek tendencies on the app, Obama said she wasn’t “talking about anybody in particular.”

She went on to speak to the importance of making sure tweets don’t have typos and use correct grammar. “Every word you utter has consequences,” she continued. “You can’t slash and burn up folks because you think you are right. You have to treat people like they are precious — even those you don’t agree with.” Well, that’s a word if ever we did hear one. Check out the clip from her talk below:
